Never Forget 9/11, September 11, 2001 When Terrorists Attacked

Many among us knew someone who was killed in those attacks on 9/11 by terrorists, whether, New York, Washington or Pennsylvania.  I am among that group.  I will not forget.

About Rejected Comments

I want to thank the people publicly who have made helpful comments on the articles here, or to those who know me, to me personally (and of course, not published). The entire purpose of this blog was to be helpful to someone looking for other's opinions and thoughts on work at home jobs, current politics or just other items of interest as the mood strikes.

Perhaps it is the economy, but I've never had so many comments requiring deletion that began appearing last year and have continued throughout this year.

It is not possible to accept and publish comments whose main purpose is only to promote their own websites and do not contribute anything of value to an article.

Obama Bows to Saudi King and the Tea Party

After the video I saw our POTUS bowing to the Saudi King, I didn't think I could be any more disgusted, but I'm watching for what clown act comes next. A real POTUS would NEVER bow to another ruler or politician, it just isn't done, but it's caught on Youtube and all over the net. I am extremely embarrassed that Obama did this.

Posted below is the video on the Tea Party song. April 15 there are supposed to be tea party gatherings around the nation to protest the foolish ways of our government. Well, what can I say, it's been done before, so there's definitely precedent for it.

Apparently I am not the only one stressed out from the frivolous spending by our POTUS and Congress. One of the things I have learned from them is when you don't have money, borrow and spend it like there is no tomorrow. Spend away other people's futures and reward those who screw up with bailouts -- oh, and don't forget to give out massive bonuses. Would somebody tell me why big bonuses are given out with taxpayer bailout monies so that executives can be retained?

Where in the hell are they going to go? Jobs are so plentiful right now, I am sure they could find something -- right? Sure wouldn't want to lose most of those people who took our economy down the tubes now would we?

Please, learn the issues going on here, and make sure you are registered to vote and then get out and vote when there are elections. In the meantime, politely, if at all possible, keep after everyone in Congress to do what's right and stop selling us down the tubes. All American children are being born deep in debt for all their lives and this porkorama circus needs stopped.

Robbing Peter to Pay Paul as a Baptist Deacon

Just another bank robbery today, this time in South Carolina. Internet news on AOL said that a man named Bruce Windsor (audio visual report only, no print report, so name might not be exact) had a real estate business that was biting the dust so he decided to rob a bank. The headline reads "Police Arrest Church Official". What's wrong with a headline that identifies him as a family man and local business owner?

Did this guy commit a crime dressed as a Baptist deacon?

I am obviously not a Baptist, nor an apologist for them, as you can tell by the articles and links on this site. However, for some reason -- and I guess we can all figure that one out -- the news feeds on someone who is Christian that really screws up.

The man owned a real estate company, but the news drives it home to viewers that he was a Deacon in his church -- and flashes a picture of the sign outside where he worships. Beats me, but I don't think I have ever seen someone in trouble with the law and had a news report mention anything about what college they graduated from, how they grew up treating their mom and dad or how many sisters and brothers he had and so on.

What if the guy was an atheist -- ever hear a news report say that?

What bothers me most I guess is to see news reports of "terrorists" and much more rare mention of their religion. Are we treading hard on Christians only? Have you had a look at your kids' school books to see how things are portrayed?

Apparently it isn't cool to be Christian and a bank robber, never mind that he is likely more well known for a real estate business in his community. We all know it truly isn't cool to be Christian and a bank robber, but if you watch the news, you'll see the biased reporting.

Anyone else as baffled as I am trying to figure out how the man thought he could rob Peter to pay Paul and get away with it? Lots of small business owners have watched their business get deep sixed, but they didn't rob a bank or commit a crime in retaliation against innocent citizens.

See the video for yourself -- what do you think about it? Here's the link http://living.aol.com/morning-rush/deacon-robber-good-morning-america/2454321

It's That Time of Year For Productions of the Vagina Monologues Again

Some Catholic Colleges permit the Vagina Monologues, but that number is finally dwindling after the Cardinal Newman Society launched an opposition campaign.

"...Cardinal Newman Society (CNS) thanked Father Michael Engh, S.J., President of Santa Clara University, a Jesuit college, for cancelling a scheduled production of The Vagina Monologues. "

Santa Clara is cancelled. There are about 15 colleges on the article listed that still don't seem to have gotten the message that play doesn't belong at a Catholic school. Why, well....why should this be part of anyone's educational experience:

"The Vagina Monologues is a sexually explicit and offensive play that favorably describes lesbian activity, group masturbation and the reduction of sexuality to selfish pleasure."

Read the whole article. Here's the link to the article at the Cardinal Newman Society: http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/CardinalNewmanSociety/
tabid/36/ctl/Details/mid/435/ItemID/423/Default.aspx

While you are there, take a few minutes to look at the list to the right about Catholic colleges. If you want to send your child to a Catholic college, this can help you find information you want.

Everyone Against Abortion Raise Your Hand

Here's a video from Priests For Life. Watch it and see if you think abortion should be legal. Don't worry, it is short and to the point; you won't throw up, but it will make you sad. A child, no matter how big or small is a real human being. You do NOT have to be Christian to be against abortion. When all people do not have the fundamental right to life, all your rights are in jeopardy.

If you need help healing your life because you had an abortion, see this website: http://www.rachelsvineyard.org/

Tax Evasion Is Not Considered A Crime In Switzerland

Looks like lawyers that specialize in financial crime are going to be busy in Switzerland (and if the Justice Department prevails, they will be busy here too). Apparently a dozen or so possible tax evaders are suing UBS and the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority for violating Swiss secrecy laws. UBS was supposed to turn over about 250 names and our Justice Department suspects around 52,000 more Americans of evading payment of taxes.

With our banks in crisis, I can understand wanting money (that is, if you have any) in a stable bank, but why should anyone be permitted NOT to pay their taxes just because they have enough cash to send offshore? Wasn't it Leona Helmsley that mumbled something about "only the little people pay taxes" as if the rich had some special privilege unavailable to lower castes? Her big mistake was thinking that people with meager funds are "little", which is pretty funny when you think about it. Great wealth is a source of great obligation, it does not make you "big" as she apparently thought.

It makes you wonder, too, if this means those with secret accounts perjured themselves when they signed their tax returns, as well as the possibility of collusion of others?

Our Economy is Sinking -- I've Got a Brilliant Idea, Hire American Workers

Our Economy is Sinking

Let's put the pedal to the metal and get our economy moving upwards. We need to demand that companies doing business here hire -- now, not only hire, but retain -- American workers. There have been way too many layoffs of capable American citizens.

Our laws have been way too lax in permitting lower cost foreign workers to be brought over here to fill jobs that Americans can do as well or better -- but foreign workers are less expensive. We will have to wait to see whether there are any real teeth in our new administration's governance with regard to employing Americans and truly much less brought over under laws that permit hiring from outside our country.

I am adverse to excessive government controls, a business needs to be free to run its business responsibly, but perhaps laws that particularly target the scenario where Americans lose their jobs, or are not hired, but foreign workers are brought in, could be very relevant and change a lot of "corporate think".

Responsibility of Leadership

Quite frankly, all corporate leadership needs to be held accountable for diminishing American jobs when American jobs are sent overseas or foreign workers are brought in to take over jobs that Americans can do. When a job is eliminated, together with its pay grade and title, and other jobs are created that take its place, it isn't hard to see how lower paid workers are replacing the higher paid ones.

There is no denial that some of this can be legitamite company restructuring, but this is a tactic very often used to eliminate workers with seniority, and all the costs that go with it. What has been done might be legal, but laws don't make these actions moral. It can just mean that a company's pockets are deep enough to afford the right legal counsel to come in under the radar and not run afoul of established law.

Outsourcing

Cheap labor overseas reduces the costs of doing business. Large and sometimes not so large businesses contract for services, further reducing American jobs. It benefits the bottom line, but the service is often very poor, and reaching someone whose command of the English language is so bad that a caller cannot understand what was said, is totally frustrating and wastes my time. Apparently wasting my time is not a consideration when it is a cost cutting benefit to a business. It's just as if they had said to me "screw you".

The BIG Ouch

Greed reduces the purchasing power of American citizens. Is it any wonder there is such economic chaos in this country? When the only thing that matters to a business is the bottom line showing profits, their priorities are totally out of order.

What Can We Do About It?

Let your Congress Critters know you disapprove, and that you can vote, will vote, and are watching the actions of those who represent you. Learn the issues and get good, solid information by digging deep enough to get it.

Discuss it with your family, friends, neighbors and every group where you belong, listen to all the views, pro and con. Call the businesses that do this, express your dissatisfaction in polite terms. Write polite letters, send petitions, be active. Make sure to tell them if they want to do business here, they need to employ American workers here. If this trend continues, there won't be any Americans who can afford anything and we will find ourselves a third world country.

Get the names of the businesses that hire foreign workers instead of Americans, and the ones who outsource American jobs. Most everyone knows someone who knows what has happened at certain businesses, word gets around, but verify the information. Where possible, get information on profits and executive pay and bonuses. Make certain you are sitting down when you get this information, some of it will be overwhelming.

Some of this information is readily obtainable. Exorbitant executive pay, bonus structures and perks at a business that employs foreign workers, or outsources work that Americans can do should raise alarm bells. We do not want to put excessive governmental controls on businesses, but we do want their behavior to be responsible without these controls.

Public pressure can help a business stay responsible, no matter how large they are. BLOG your opinion -- reach others, and let's turn the tide. Daily prayer and moral behavior on your own part work well too, show the leadership you have.

This is not just about you and me, but about our children and their children's future as well. Let's work hard to make everyone's future, including capitalistic business, solid as a rock.

Revitalizing Our Economy, Americans Need Jobs

One of the simple things that will revitalize and help stabilize our economy is the availability of jobs that pay at least a sufficient amount to live comfortably, raise a family and pay for necessities with enough left over to save and splurge a little.

Those of you over the age of, and perhaps as young as 30, remember a different economic climate long ago and watched as all our lives began to change faster with even bigger challenges due to unemployment and higher prices. Unemployment, underemployment and financial problems have caused such tremendous chaos that even those who are still able to pay their way feel the ground shaking beneath them as well.

My thoughts on the changes, as I have watched and fretted over it for quite a few years, is about how many American jobs have been lost due to outsourcing work and manufacturing to other countries where labor costs (and their cost of living) is far less. Companies that outsource have enjoyed greater profits, but the general public is not reaping the benefits, and changes need made.

It is way past time to get off this roller coaster ride and bring American jobs and efficient manufacturing back home here where it will benefit our economy and our lives. This issue has had a domino effect, jobs lost, tax base lost, everyone looking for government aid, and our government is borrowing money. Our economy needs reformed from within.

Contact your congress critters and discuss your concerns. If you are not signed up to vote, do so now, and arm yourself with full knowledge of the issues at stake -- from many sources, read independent conservative bloggers as well to get a more balanced view, the general news will not tell you everything you need to know to make informed decisions.

Your Income Tax Dollars Do Not Work.. But You Do, Or Used To Work

Our economy is so bad right now, it might just as well join the other useless items in the dumpster for trash removal. Why are so many people shaking their heads and declaring that they just cannot understand it?

The damning evidence piles are high and absolutely reeking like garbage. I am not going to visit each pile here, but begin by laying out one of the big problems: Government size and spending.

Government has become so large over the years that it feeds on its own need, and in turn, has a huge appetite for your income tax dollars and unnecessary government spending on itself and on many other things. This exponential growth is going to affect not only you and your children, and their children, but further on down through more generations to come. This unhappy situation needs put into proper perspective and remedied promptly so that our country can become a safe and happy home for every one of us.

Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma has a lot of reports on wasteful spending, many of them totally outrageous of your and my income tax dollars that fund the government spending. A quick trip through them is enlightening and there are many more that I know of that were not mentioned.

If your own budget was set up like this, your own finances would quickly fail and you would be in deep trouble, if not homeless. The whole problem with unnecessary government spending is that it personally affects every one of us who will carry the burden and for generations to come -- it is all totally unnecessary and totally avoidable.

Senator Tom Coburn has a website with a great deal of information on wasted money spent by the government. You can find that at http://coburn.senate.gov/public

Take the time to read it. Contact your own congress critters and demand a stop to spending that benefits special interests, is totally unnecessary or outrageous; and absolutely NOT geared to rebuilding our economy to the benefit of everyone.

This recession is real, folks, there will be no quick fix. If you are not broadly informed on real issues, set aside time NOW to do it on a regular basis. Read independent conservative bloggers, not just mainstream news. You will learn a great deal and see the other side of the story. Once you are well armed with a lot of information, make certain you are signed up to VOTE.

Never miss the opportunity to vote and make your voice heard loud and clear. Your vote does count.

Here is more reading for you on totally unnecessary, outrageous spending and waste of your income tax dollars that will benefit an already profit-making business that earns their profits on human misery -- do you really want your dollars going here? See my Thursday, December 25 article at http://livethoughtfully.blogspot.com/2008/12/planned-parenthood-wants-46-billion.html Outrageous!

Update to this post 1/13/08:

I want to correct any misunderstanding in my post above about PP being a normal for profit business. Their business is operated as a nonprofit in a very slick manner. Access the Better Business site at: http://charityreports.bbb.org/public/Report.aspx?CharityID=626&bureauID=9999 -- so you can read it for yourself, and here is an excerpt from the report "Former President Gloria Feldt received total compensation of $902,148 for the period of July 1, 2004 - January 31, 2005." We are talking some serious compensation here for a nonprofit that wants to suck in your income tax dollars.

Can anyone tell me what charity or non-profit pays this well, turns around and uses taxpayer income tax dollars to further solicit donations, makes political contributions to ensure legislation in their favor, and works as hard as possible to infiltrate schools and other organizations for the young to teach them more than they ever should know about how to achieve a total lack of morals?

Jeff Miller over at http://www.splendoroftruth.com/ has a good article about their "earnings". You can read it at http://www.splendoroftruth.com/curtjester/archives/008802.php anyone else hearing alarm bells going off?

Pennsylvania Representative Anthony DeLuca Looking At Car Insurance Rates

One of the news channels on the internet had an article on Tony DeLuca who is questioning the car insurance companies' rating system. The article informs that in Pennsylvania (check your own state for this too!) the insurers are giving better rates to those with higher educations. (Here's the article I found on the net http://kdka.com/politics/Car.Insurance.education.2.895432.html
and the home page of Anthony DeLuca if you are interested in checking back to see if there is any further news or contact his office for an update http://www.pahouse.com/deluca

By now, most everyone is aware that many industries base and change premiums or interest rates on the overall personal creditworthiness of an individual, totally regardless of whether or not that person has ever had a credit issue with the business, even during long-established relationships. Basing a car insurance rate on educational level -- well, that certainly seems like it has gone way too far and that other, more important criteria should certainly be given greater weight -- maybe things like accident history and claims for starters.

It is undeniable that those who are not creditworthy should not be applying for mortgages, loans or credit they really cannot repay, but I do find it outrageous for every creditor or insurer who possibly can, to jump on the rate hike bandwagon where there has been no problem with an established relationship. The overall effect of rate hikes "just because" is to further the downward spiral of those struggling, and this causes MORE financial failures where it otherwise would NOT have happened. It is just another way to extract more money from the poor.

In turn, the poor look to the government for housing, goods and services, and everyone still left standing with some assets and a job will help pay for it -- and in this economy, it could be for generations to come.

Our entire nation's economy is teetering on the brink of a tremendous disaster, and one of the ways to help prevent or lessen the impact, is NOT to raise prices on goods and services. The outcry in this nation would be great if a grocery store charged different prices for food to cash paying customers according to their credit history or education.

Anyone else feel there are moral problems with the way business is conducted?

$1.00 A Day To Write A Blog

Update: Today.com has changed their policy on how writers are rewarded. I heard that they initially started out at $5 a post, then reduced that to $1, and sometime in January began a different system to pay writers. A quick review of their webpage did not yield the details, so if there is still interest, please use a web search engine or contact them before you sign up.

Old article below:

New to writing and want to try out your skills? You do not have to be a seasoned writer to get paid to write at Today.com, just capable of adding interesting and informative content when you choose a subject, and following directions on the site. Each new VIP blogger is guaranteed $1.00 for each orginal 100 or more word post on their blog per day. When unique views to your blog reach a thousand as recorded by Today.com, your pay will include an additional $2.00.

Today.com will review your blog monthly for certain criteria that include originality, regular posting, and how popular your blog has become. Today looks for quality work, and people who are able to promote themselves to produce page views. Today also notes that after review and consideration of statistics, payment might be "adjusted".

Bloggers can write more than one entry per day but only one will be accepted for payment. If you would like to try it out, go to http://www.today.com/, read the information presented on the site and sign up if you think you might be a good fit. It could be the start of a writing career for the stay at home, or work at home mom (or dad) or one of many "eggs" in your work basket for online earnings.

Planned Parenthood Wants $4.6 Billion From Obama Administration?

Normally, my writing in the past has been concerned with thoughts on working from home and how to assess various offers and companies; eclectic personal experience, recipes and other things that I found interesting.

This blog is being revived and I hope to provide you with a lot of food for thought, whether it be other work at home possibilities, personal stories, interviews with real moms who work from home and run their own businesses, interesting finds, or things that are just plain outrageous.

Today, on Christmas Day, I am still awake and surfing the net for news, views and whatever is interesting to be found, while more sensible people have likely already gone to sleep, or are still wrapping their presents. Right now I am still up and missing my youngest son very much who is in the service of our country (yes, he has been over in the Middle East) and is not able to come home for Christmas. He has to stay at his main base, but at least he is in the United States for now. He called earlier and has a place to go with friends to celebrate, but it just is not the same when he is not home.

This story on Planned Parenthood has really upset me because I know that food banks are running short, and cannot serve everyone in need properly; so many people have lost their jobs and cannot find another to support their families, pay their bills; and many are losing their homes to foreclosure -- and Planned Parenthood wants more of my and your taxpayer money? This push for taxpayer funds is totally outrageous, totally arrogant and just totally insane -- as it would still be even if the entire nation were not struggling with financial woes. This is not a charitable organization, they make money on abortion services and much other so-called "healthcare" -- and, they want your taxpayer dollars to keep them in this highly profitable and disgusting business. They also intend to shove this down the taxpayer's throat whether you want it or not. Well, in my case, the answer is NOT now, NOT ever.

It is amazing what you can learn when you search out articles on the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger.

You just have to read this whole article by Katie Walker on December 19, 2008 at http://www.all.org/article.php?id=11720

"Washington, D.C. (19 December 2008) – President-elect Barack Obama's transition team has published a 55-page wish list from Planned Parenthood and over 50 other pro-abortion groups with a $4.6 billion price tag."

If the new President Obama and his administration work to assist them in their request, I will be inconsolable unless enough good people let their votes and voices be heard in opposition together so they do not receive it. Do not let Planned Parenthood, et al, get away with this. It is totally outrageous. Every child is a gift to be cherished, our future doctors, researchers, engineers, teachers, mothers, fathers, -- everyone, has something important to contribute, regardless of whether they might or do have disabilities or the severity of the disability. Life is precious. Stand up and be counted.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year

On this Holy Day, I wanted to wish you and all of yours Merry Christmas, and in the midst of all of our collective financial woes, unemployment, underemployment or worry about your employment and finances, ask God's blessing for all of us in the New Year.

Celebrate the birth of the Christ Child! He is all the reason for our celebration, and without Him, the celebration is not worthwhile.

I say Merry Christmas to other people, do you? It might be seen as politically incorrect, but it is a Christian celebration and I am not ashamed or embarrassed to celebrate.

Do It Yourself Pizza From Store Bought Homemade Bread

Tired of firing up your oven just to reheat pizza you had delivered when it's a bit less than piping hot or the crust could use a little more crisping?

You really can do it yourself with fantastic results that's more economical than delivery. Slice your chosen bread lengthwise and wrap the crust part only in aluminum foil (we use the non-stick). Lay your cheese on top and melt it (slices work well here). You can then remove it from the oven to add your sauce on top of the melted cheese so it won't soak into the bread and add the rest of your toppings. Return to the oven until it's all piping hot and crispy. Remove the aluminum foil for a few minutes toward the end of the baking cycle and enjoy.

Immortalized On The Web, Do You Let It All Hang Out?

There is a lot of talk on the net about SEO (search engine optimization) especially for those hoping to profit by their writing and selling. When a webmaster uses keywords, even inadvertently, it assists the search engines to help others find your site, your posts in a thread and in comment sections.

What could become a problem is in many discussion groups, blogs and websites on the net where individuals discuss their intimate personal details that should stay personal, and those discussions become searchable under key words which can be brought up by request to various search engines. These eventually become cached on the web, so even if the poster succeeds in removing posts, they are still available for viewing.

While it might not be likely that those who have posted will be instantly recognized by someone searching on the internet, TMI (too much information), especially of the personal kind, can end up searchable or cached on the net with the right combination of search words.

This is particularly true if you belong to a site that permits links, or does not have a way to block links, that people are posting along with their discussions or comments. Those utilizing a search engine can sometimes bring up much more than anticipated.

If you are recognizable on the net and applying for a job, remember that current trends are not only to pull your credit report, but also pull a background check that very often includes doing a search on the internet. TMI can kill your chances for employment even though your skills might be impeccable.

If you want to be comfortable on the net, discretion in what you post anywhere is something to keep in mind.

Do You Drive While Texting Or Chatting On The Phone?

Several years ago my brother-in-law was hit broadside at his driver's door by a woman running a red light while she was busy chatting on her cell phone, hadn't noticed she had a red light, so she just kept going until she hit him. My brother-in-law was fortunate, he was driving a larger extended cab truck (a personal truck that was large enough to transport his whole family) and was the only one in it at the time of the impact. The woman was in a car. The outcome may have been much more serious had the woman also been in as large and heavy a vehicle.

Both survived the accident with injuries, but the damage to the vehicles was tremendous. All this because the woman wasn't paying attention while driving. Both were very lucky that neither vehicle exploded.

Some of our lawmakers have recognized this growing problem and now, because people cannot put all their priorities on safety, we are going to lose the right to make or receive calls while behind the wheel. If you really need to talk, get a headset and a dashboard mount so there's no fumbling with the phone. Spending a few more bucks per month financing a vehicle option that lets you speak hands free might be a good choice as well.

One of the problems with using cell phones while driving is the ability to do text messages. Younger people seem to have more readily embraced this form of communication, even while driving, which makes the situation even more dangerous.

Here's a recent article about regulating everyone's behavior behind the wheel. We can probably look for more of the same to come in our own states. Virginia Considers Ban On Driving While Texting I wouldn't be a bit surprised if our laws continue to become even more restrictive because of other's lack of responsibility behind the wheel.

Unresearched Customer Service, An At Home Job at Cloud 10 Corp

So many people now have their own office space/computer set up that as long as you have the necessary equipment, a quiet space and desire for a job, there are legtimate companies out there looking for you.

The business behind the link to Cloud 10 Corp. is unresearched here, so for all links of this nature, it is in your best interest to do your own due diligence to check out these opportunities before you apply.

Customer service has become a large part of the available work for moms and dads who need to work at home. What did catch my eye on Cloud 10 was their statement that their at home professionals were employees and that there are advancement opportunities. They did not mention they were currently hiring, but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try if your research on them finds them to your liking.

http://www.cloud10corp.com/careercenter/ahp.html

If you currently work for Cloud 10 it would be nice to leave some feedback here for others.

Telecommute From Home And Use That English/Writing Degree

This lead is totally unresearched, but it looked as though it might be a good opportunity for a stay at home mom, dad or grad if you have the proper background in English or writing and can satisfy yourself that this is a solid company. The website notes it is taking applications for additional qualified editors. It seems quite a bit skimpy on details*, but if your careful research turns out to your satisfaction, it might be a good opportunity for you.

Job Hint: Most any of the WHA people can tell you to never put all your eggs in one basket, especially if you are relying on a certain level of income. Always have additional and non-competing sources -- non-competing sources so that if a certain market goes sour, you aren't caught off guard.

*Skimpy details aren't always a tipoff that something is not legtimate. A company might simply be protecting its internal data from competitors.

You can always look up the name of the company you like to purchase from, so many have websites now, and often welcome you to sign up for the promotions, both email and online and you can also just print out coupons. It would be a great idea to have a separate email address for these kinds of things so they all arrive and are available in one handy place.

New Year's Resolutions: Deepen Faith, Live, Laugh More and Always Widen My Circle of Wonderful Friends

It's inevitable that every Christmas and New Year's, we are one year older; and hopefully more faithful to God, happier, wiser and a little more financially stable than last year. I'm always sad when Christmas day is over, but long ago when my Grandma lived with us, we also had a little celebration of Russian Christmas, so my tree and decorations stay up at least through then, even now. Everyone has their own traditions and that just happens to be one of ours. While we aren't celebrating Russian Christmas, it's still a special day to me because of my beloved Grandma.

Year end many of us take stock of all our experiences during the past year, good, bad and indifferent and wonder how our future can be even more worthwhile. It really seems simple to me that all that is necessary is to keep doing all the good things that have been accomplished, learn our faith more completely, live and deal with love for others, discover even more wonderful new friends than in the past and bring on the laughter.

Laughter is a great mood elevator and I'm making a little contribution with a you-tube Weird Al video this year. For those of you who know who enjoy his accomplished talents, you'll love this one, and if you've never heard of him, watch it, he'll grow on you.

Happy, Safe and Prosperous New Year to all!!

Warning: Stomach Virus From Hell Leaving Many Very Ill

One of the worst stomach viruses to hit this winter is beginning its rounds. Symptoms are so severe that you could mistake it for the flu or food poisoning. Onset is pretty sudden. Friends have reported others who have been hospitalized. If the elderly catch this, it is probably a good idea for a trip to the ER and possibly hospitalization. You should not be alone if you catch this, it definitely won't have run through your system in two days, and causes extreme exhaustion. I am on day four of this virus and am still pretty much unable to get out of bed except for very short periods of time, but that is a definite improvement over almost not at all.

Growing Up Poor

As my friend and I were leaving work, we walked together with another co-worker. We teased him about eating an apple on the way to get our rides home, 'only getting your lunch now?' we had asked. Our friend Sean told us that he found he had left this apple in his desk drawer and that if he didn't eat it today, it would not be edible for much longer.

You see, he explained, he had grown up poor, and even though he had a good job in another department where we worked, the habits he learned when poor were still with him. Nothing was wasted or thrown out. He bragged he still had a few shirts from 20 years ago that were in good condition, and just could not force himself to throw them out.

My friend and I agreed with him, neither of us had grown up in abundance either, but at least the consensus was that if he did part with them, they had to be given to someone else who could use them. We recycle, we reuse is nothing new, it's just the really correct thing to do now.

Sean thought he needed to change some of his longstanding habits, but we thought maybe he should teach some of those habits to others so they too could stay a little farther out of debt.

Holiday Party Appetizers Are Easy To Make At Home

If the prices of pre-prepared heat and eat appetizers leave you cold, you don't have to experiment yourself and just hope yours turn out okay. Pillsbury has their own website and lots of help for you. I'll be making something from their recipes collection this weekend too. To sweeten the deal even further, coupons are offered when you register with them. That link is at
http://www.pillsbury.com/coupons-promotions - to search for recipes, look at the left side bar where you can search. Try the term "crescent" and you'll find a lot of party goodies you can make at home for less.

You can easily keep your appetizers hot after baking by putting them into an electric frypan on a warm setting. Now you can get out of the kitchen and join the party too.

Chat Face To Face With FiOS Internet from Verizon

Well, just what I need, one more reason to dress up a bit, fix my hair and makeup, straighten the desk which has reached avalanche alert status and look awake. For those who work at home in their pj's (c'mon, you don't really do that, do you?) you are going to need a robe.

FiOS is high speed, you can network computers and video chat with others. Sounds like a good deal from Verizon. It would be wonderful to keep in touch with family members far away where you can actually see them, (especially ones with new babies), and assuming that they have a set-up that was compatible or also had Verizon FiOS.

Isn't technology wonderful?

Big Foot? Sasqwatch, Yeti -- Are They Hiding Near You?

As a native Pennsylvanian, I remember a very long time ago when "something very big and hairy" was seen by various people in the nearby woods. It was taken so seriously that no one was supposed to be permitted around the area and the recreational activities were shut down. Nothing was ever revealed if anything was ever found.

Everyone wondered if it could be Big Foot sightings. The illusive creature probably does exist (somewhere, but Pennsylvania?) The creature is known by various names such as Sasqwatch, Yeti or Big Foot and many more. It really would be interesting to dig into Native American legends in Pennsylvania and other states to see if any stories exist and compare them.

It always pays to be careful driving in our neck of the woods and last night was no exception, between the deer walking the roads, rabbits, foxes, snakes, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, etc., if you aren't careful, your car will be needing fixed or "destunk". I think if I did see a Big Foot I might not even be surprised, probably just grateful to have avoided a collision.

This story recently appeared on a news site down in Pittsburgh that I often check to learn a little about what is happening there. This story is about Elk County with a news video that shows the picture. It doesn't look like a bear to me either.

Check it out and make up your own mind. In any event, it's Halloween today, so enjoy the store but run like hell the other way if you do see one, there aren't any stories of big and stinky hairy critters that are friendly...

Happy Halloween Thriller In The Philippines

This is a Thriller of a video, prison style. Apparently someone in the Philippines has been spending their time choreographing for prisoners. But hey, when you think of other things they could have been doing, this might not be such a bad idea. There were other dancing videos of the prisoners on You Tube as well; hopefully the admin there will find someone to teach them to sing as well. This program has to be a better choice than leaving them to their own devices.

Some Tips To Get The Work From Home Job You Want Instead of Rejection

Have you stacked the odds in your favor? It’s not always possible to just “wing” it and get there, not all of us are good at that.

You need to have researched the type of work and the company before you apply to determine how you would answer questions posed by them. To someone who is new at this, it can be very intimidating, regardless of how capable you really are, especially if you haven’t worked for a paycheck in a while, or if you have worked at one place for a long time and suddenly find yourself looking for work again.

For instance, when in an interview (whether by phone or an online application) you are asked question(s) pertaining to why you would be a good fit for the job you need to be ready to answer with what you have to offer of value to the company. Remember they are concerned with what skills, abilities, experience and dedication you will bring, as they truly want to stack the odds in their favor that you will boost their income and be a reliable asset to them.

Just because you want the job since it would fit your lifestyle -- around your family -- or you really need to work to help support your family -- that's quite honestly not likely what they want to hear; and sadly, probably don’t even care about hearing it – being “needy” could even hurt your chances. You would instead play up that yes, your circumstances fit what they need and want (you would need to be sure of this before you apply or interview).

In today’s business world, besides testing your skills, (testing the personableness and clarity of your voice, and even check on your ability of quick thinking for telephone work), some companies also insist on doing background checks and credit checks that you have to pass. You might even have to pay for this, pass or fail, and you might still not get the work.

Right now, most any job, whether you are an IC or telecommute as an employee, is all about flawless production, ramping up that production, and strict adherence to many rules. Many of these can be more than a bit onerous and even unfair at times. It is, however, to the company’s gain to manage their business as they have a vast pool of resources (you and thousands of others) from which to choose.

When a company is hiring, it really is all about them. You have to be ready to answer questions that are oriented toward the good of the company first. If you fear a question about prior employment and you haven't had paid employment for awhile, it shouldn't hurt to include your volunteer experience and how it relates to the work for which you want to apply.

It could be a big help you to start working at home without that kind of stress -- to gradually build your confidence without the threat of so much hanging over your head.

Whether you are a newbie at applying as an IC or not, you can begin to gain and grow in confidence and ability by starting a simple home business of your own. This one could surprise you and be just what you are looking for without all the hassles and thousands of rules.

Again, your own personal scrutiny of the offer and company behind the job offer is required. I neither work for them, nor have personal experience with them.

Can Anyone Help With Windows Internet Explorer Glitch On This Blogspot?

Anyone have any idea why this Blogspot has a Windows Internet Explorer glitch that appears saying:

  • "We're sorry an unexpected error has occurred. Please excuse the inconvenience and try again shortly."

"Shortly" has been ongoing for a few weeks and nothing I can do at the control panel has helped and I can't locate anything in the help section that helps. I am not a computer tech. Taking items off and checking the blog hasn't made any difference.

Any ideas what I can do (besides abandon the blog and do something else)?

Comments/suggested fixes appreciated.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the reader who took the time to find out what was wrong and your fix was right on target! Now I can work on my other computer problems so I can work on getting caught up on emails and all the rest of the things on which I am so far behind. Thanks again and again.

Great Stuff - A Universal Truth Done in Rap Music Video Style by Fr. Stan Fortuna

Please don't accuse me of having You Tube-itis lately, because I can't deny it. Among some not so great things are great things.

I will get back to again posting more work from home jobs leads, recipes and stories and articles on free education and so on soon. Since my blog really is not intended as a single niche looking at one subject over and over (though there is certainly nothing wrong for those who do that well), there's surely something here of interest for you in previous articles.

This one music video in particular, well, I just had to post it because the whole subject matter is such a universal truth -- everyone does have to suffer in life -- we think of those whose wealth insulates them from the every day drudgery of life, never really thinking that often times with their enormous wealth comes problems to match. This really puts things into perspective, even as it is an equalizer of sorts.

And you would have never thought I liked RAP MUSIC, well, I didn't, until I saw this one. It's worth the time to watch....and reflect on life.

Telecommute Your Way To Earnings From Home, IT Consultant, Web Developer, Transcriptionist

Telecommuting is becoming very popular and competition for jobs is increasing. Fortunately, it also seems that more companies are permitting employees or independent contractors to work from home. If you already have employment in a type of position you could handle entirely from home (or partly from home and partly from the office), you might want to discuss your request. However, do your homework first on companies that permit their own employees to do this so you present your request in a manner that is favorable to your employer.

The following links were located on the net and are unresearched, your own due diligence is required to determine the legitimacy of any company listed below.

IT Consultant: MyBizOffice is looking for an IT Consultant skilled in SAP, Oracle, JAVA -- they are looking for elite consultants as W-2 employees. For more information, view the job posting at http://www.devbistro.com/jobs/56339

Web Designer/Developer: JKPorto Inc. IT & Executive Recruitment is looking for candidates for a full time – 40 hours week person who is local in South Florida, but will consider telecommute – some of the skills wanted are PHP, DHTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, XML, design, MySQL. For more information, view the job posting at http://www.devbistro.com/jobs/56331

Transcription: Here is a company that looks for transcriptionists, their employment information is on the link that follows. While they do not indicate that they are hiring right now, most of these types of companies will take notice of someone who has a solid work background with great skills that meet their needs.

Their site indicates that they receive many applications, and that they hold them for review as need arises. If you are really capable and interested in this type of company, it could be very worth your while to familiarize yourself not only with their requirements, but also with the process of obtaining and completing work online so you are ready and able to work if qualified and they contact you for work. http://www.tigerfish.com/employment.html

Three Stooges Museum In Spring House, Pennsylvania, It’s Another Reason To Come Visit Pennsylvania

If you are a fan of The Three Stooges, there is a museum for you to see during your trips through Pennsylvania (by appointment). One of the Stooges’ relatives has preserved much of the memorabilia. Here is more information and how to contact Gary Lassin – just click on the directions tab at http://www.stoogeum.com/

If we ever drive to that side of the state, we will be stopping there. The Three Stoogies were always favorites of not only myself, but my husband and his family. The Stooges’ were great entertainers and if you have never watched any of the episodes, you can get them on DVD at eBay. Maybe we will have a family reunion some day at one of the residences that has a home theater – the episodes would be great on a big screen.

Work From Home Giving Your Mock Trial Verdict Opinions As Online Juror

The links located on the net below are unresearched companies; your own due diligence investigating any link presented on this site is in your best interest before deciding to sign up. You might find some helpful information by searching the records of the Better Business Bureau. A call to your local Bar Association (or the Bar Association in the area in which these companies have a main office) might also be helpful in evaluating any company.

You could also ask the Bar Association if they know of any other mock trial companies in your area and find more options. It seems that many of these companies are able to work with individuals on a telecommuting basis. Some, however, might require your presence at a presentation as well.

Search through my other articles on work at home situations and the archived material here (located on the left hand side) of this blogspot for more of my opinions on researching various businesses. My thoughts are not intended to be all-inclusive, so please use your own best judgment when evaluating any links.

Not all the companies below give easy information on sign-up; if your research on a particular company looks promising, and there is no sign-up page – use the “contact us” feature on their website to request that information.

Learn To Knit

How I wish I had the talent to knit, the video makes it look easy -- at least until I would get my own hands on the needles and yarn, then there's no telling how many knots, holes and backward stitches (none of which would be supposed to be there) would find their way into the project. Handmade things are just so, well, wonderfully handmade, and would be a great way to earn extra money from home.

People love well-made handknit garments in yarns and colors of their own choice. Your own friends and local area would be likely first customers if you have the time and talent.

ROOTIN’ TOOTIN’ BEAN SALAD – A HEARTY SUMMERTIME, PICNIC, TAILGATE OR ANYTIME FAVORITE

This neat and easy salad (and beans are good for you) can be served cold or room temperature. Many supermarkets now provide some more choices in canned vegetables that are available without salt added so that those on a restricted diet can also enjoy this salad and not stray too far from the limit on sodium.

- 1 Can Green Beans – rinsed and drained
- 1 Can Yellow Wax Beans – rinsed and drained
- 1 Can Garbanzo Beans – rinsed and drained
- 1 Can Light Red Kidney Beans - drained
- 1 Can Navy Beans – rinsed and drained
- 4 ounces fresh Mushrooms – chopped into chunks or sliced as desired
(canned mushrooms work well also, but fresh has less sodium)
- 1 inch stack of thinly sliced sweet white onion (use a medium onion that tends
to be on the smaller side – and use more or less according to your preference
- 4 stalks fresh tender Celery (use the more tender pieces, don’t use the
outside of the stalk - cut into bite size pieces
- 4 oz quality Italian dressing

Use a non-reactive container that works easiest for you. Place all ingredients in a large container (i.e., a glass lasagna pan) so it is easy to mix the vegetables without breaking them. Pour the Italian dressing over the top evenly and mix carefully. Salad can be served immediately, but is better tasting the next day or made earlier in the day and mixed several times. Keep the salad refrigerated and covered.

If you are not serving the same day, be sure to mix the vegetables several times and again just before serving. The 4 oz of dressing for this amount of vegetables is very light but adequate when mixed, adjust this to your liking. We like to keep the calorie count low as well as watching the sodium.

Iced Coffee Is An Anytime Treat

Iced Coffee doesn't taste as good when ice cubes made only with water have started to melt and dilute the coffee to a more watery taste. Cubes made from coffee produce a better result. We basically ruined the little cube trays to get them out and try it.

It was important to me to find ice cube trays that produced really small cubes. I finally found them on e-Bay and ordered several packages. That was a mistake.

The flat bottom of the tiny ice cube trays make it all but totally impossible to remove the cubes. (Uploading the picture on Blogger has blurred it for some reason as the picture is clear that I took. I wanted to show you the difference.)

To make matters even worse, I added sugar to the coffee before cooling and freezing them because the trays spilled in the freezer; they were not shaped right on the top either and were difficult to fill.

I think a new set of the regular size poured half full to make smaller ice cubes (although I am still going to use some sugar) will solve the problem. At least I can get the regular size trays in local stores. Note that it seems to take longer to freeze when sugar is used, so you might want to try making them without sugar.

Make your coffee in the normal meaurements. Freeze your cubes, let your coffee cool in a glass container and refrigerate it. When the coffee cubes in the trays are frozen, it's easy to assemble and enjoy the entire drink.

Not A Green Thumb In The House

Last May we replanted three tiny little tomato plants which had been grown from seed by a friend and given to me. It is now August and there are finally two tiny tomatoes on each of two plants. The third plant must be still thinking about it. At this point of the summer, I am not hopeful that they are going to produce enough for a salad. Still, four little tomatoes are better than none at all. Next year, I will try growing them myself and use an appropriate fertilizer. There's nothing better than a fresh picked tomato.

My mother loved to plant tomatoes every year (never used a fertilizer) in her back yard. There were always bumper crops of luscious tasting tomatoes from her garden. It’s obvious that the green thumb was not passed on to me.
